Vampira The Movie (2006)
Kevin Sean Michaels' latest documentary, "VAMPIRA: THE MOVIE," provides an intimate portrayal of Maila Nurmi, the pioneer horror host who made history in 1954 by bringing the "glamour ghoul" Vampira to life on television. Each week, she greeted her audience from a misty cobweb-filled hallway before showcasing obscure horror movies. Her fame soared, and she became a regular companion to Hollywood's biggest names, including Marlon Brando, James Dean, and Anthony Perkins. Despite her success, Vampira's show was unexpectedly cancelled, and it wasn't until 1956 that Nurmi reprised the character in the infamous low-budget horror/sci-fi movie "Plan 9 From Outer Space," directed by Edward D. Wood Jr. Despite the film's poor reception, Nurmi's character was resurrected once more in Tim Burton's 1993 movie, "Ed Wood," starring Johnny Depp. Since then, her status has grown to become a cult favorite akin to Bettie Page.
